Re: Six Reasons Not To Send Your Daughter To College

Four weeks ago FixTheFamily.com, a website that provides insight on how to raise a catholic family in a modern world, featured a blog post by one of its founders, Raylan Alleman. The post is titled, “Six Reasons Not To Send Your Daughter To College.”

I don’t want to sound intolerant about the views of others but this abortion of an article (too far?) has set a new low for online journals, even for Fix The Family.  I had to double check and make sure I wasn’t reading an Onion article because if Alleman’s views were not serious they would be considered comedic genius.

What I find most entertaining about Alleman’s article is that he goes on to list misconceptions about his beliefs that he calls objectives just incase the any of readers didn’t read his previous works “Feminist Lie- Children are a Burden” and “The Pill is Abuse of Women.” His objectives include “You don’t believe in educating women,” “You believe in taking away opportunities from women,” and “You believe putting women is a subservient role.” He claims all those are objectives as false but probably contradicts himself about 100 times when he lists his reasons not to send your daughter to college.

Alleman’s first reason, your daughter will attract the wrong types of men if you send her to college. He writes, “Lazy men who are looking for a mother figure in a wife are very attracted to this responsible, organized smart woman that has it all together along with a steady paying job and benefits.” First of all I find it ironic that he saying that you daughter should be a lazy mooch and leach off men, as if that is the role of woman of society. Also he is implying that most college men are lazy. Maybe it depends on the school but most good ones don’t have people that made good grades and pay tens of thousands of dollars that shit sit around and do nothing and try to get a girlfriend to do everything for them.

His second reason is that she will be neat the occasion of sin...whatever that means. I guess what he’s saying is that if your daughter goes to college she is more likely to have premarital sex. I think maybe if this guy’s website focused on teaching your kids about sex and specifically safe sex maybe this wouldn’t be such an issue.  Alleman also gives his readers an unhealthy opinion about college girls and sex, “You have a heavy concentration of young people al living together without the supervision of parents at the most sexually charged stage of life that they will experience…This is no small matte that we’re dealing with here. Is a degree worth the loss of your daughters purity, dignity and soul.” Alright parents, remember, its your choice if daughter has premarital sex or not and if she does her life his ruined. Purity, gone, dignity, gone, should, that’s gone too. Might as well shun her have a twelfth child that won’t disobey God’s word because after all The Bible says forgiveness is overrated…or am I thinking of Tony Soprano? Yeah, I don’t think Alleman is right here either.

Reason number three, she will not learn to be a good wife or mother. According to Alleman the more education you receive will not make you better caretaker of your children. This is ironic because Alleman says he homeschools his children, so wouldn’t it make sense to have a college degree yourself since that is a requirement to teach nearly everywhere in the United States? After all his Facebook page says that he studied Wisdom at The School of Hardknocks and the University of Life. Alleman’s argument is that college does not teach women the domestic trade. He writes, “Nothing that is taught in college curriculum is geared towards domestic homemaking. It is training in a very masculine role of a professional career.” I guess getting an education won’t help raise children at all and the learning to a homemaker can only be by learned by spending your life at home. Needless to say you can get an education and learn to be a homemaker without having to give up one for the other. Just lie by own mother and my grandmother did, but hey I trust radical catholic family man on this one because he said earlier that he does not believe in trapping women in a subservient role.

Reason number four; it’s expensive to send a you daughter to college. Yes it is but that doesn’t mean she does not have the means to pay back student loans or find a way to make it work with the support of her parents. It should be your daughter’s choice to go to college and parents should feel an obligation to support the child’s goal to attend an institution of higher learning. The knowledge that mother has passed on to me has been invaluable and something that you cannot simply just put a price tag on.

Number five, “You don’t have to prove anything to the world.” Okay, I don’t know where to start. Alleman basically just goes full misogynist with this one when he says, “Society is so fixated with the feminist ideal of women having to have a job and provide an income to have worth.” I just like how he implies that idea of women of having self worth is ridiculous.  Which again goes against his objective that sates that he does not believe in educating women or taking away their opportunities.

Lastly, he says that sending you daughter to college will result in the near occasion of sin for the parents. This is basically saying that parents will use contraception if they feel like if they have another child then they will have to pay for their education. While a college savings plan is on the minds of a lot of expecting couples it is not the primary concern. I would say the child’s essential needs like medical care, food and shelter are on the minds of parents. College should not be something parents should force their children into and can be something decided by the child later down the road, not when they are in the womb.

So there you have it, six reasons not send you daughter to college. I mean those crazy feminist thinking they want to do something more with their lives that just being housewives. After it is up to the parents to what their child’s occupation to be and never mind a college degree. It’s absolutely ridiculous to think a degree is used for anything but to get a job, how dare women like my own mother go to school to receive an education.
